Middle East

John McCain strongly believes that we should stay in Iraq until Al Qaeda is defeated. He states that we must rid the country of all possible threats and not let it become a haven for terrorists. He also wants to make sure that Iraq has a stable security system and will be able to support itself from future threats. I agree with this stance on this subject. We have been in the war for all this time we should end it properly. Many brave men have died, fighting for their country. What kind of example would we be setting if we just let them die for no reason.

Obama is committed as president to end the war in Iraq. Obama plans towithdraw all troops in Iraq by 2010. Obama says, "This compact willaim to secure Iraq's borders; keep neighboring countries from meddlinginside Iraq; isolate al Qaeda; support reconciliation among Iraq'ssectarian groups; and provide financial support for Iraq'sreconstruction and development." America entered the war carelesslyand must be very careful while withdrawing. To this day, the country has spent 2.7 trillion dollars in this warthat had no results. The debt we are in is not caused only by thefailing stock market, but also the war in Iraq as well. It can beargued that the failure of the stock market was caused by the war inIraq. Ultimately, Obama plans to end the war in Iraq by isolation andwithdraw all troops by 2010.

Barack Obama sees the Iraq War as a burden to our country. He spoke out before the war started that it will be "an occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined costs, and undetermined consequences." He strives to end the war during his term as president. Obama seeks to have a phased withdrawal so that Iraqi government can take control of their own country again. He will allot enough time and engage all levels of the Iraqi nation so that they are able "to forge compromises on oil revenue sharing, the equitable provision of services, federalism, the status of disputed territories, new elections, aid to displaced Iraqis, and the reform of Iraqi security forces." After the withdrawal, Obama would provide assistance for refugees displaced by the war.
